About Me:ShowHello! My name is Carolyn. I was raised in the suburbs of Chicago. I started playing the piano at a young age and took piano lessons throughout my adolescence. During high school, my musical focus turned to the flute and singing. Singing quickly became my passion. I attended college at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI and graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Music in K-12 choral and general music education and a Bachelor of Arts in German. As a student in the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music, I received training in singing opera, art songs, and musical theater. I am a dramatic soprano with a rich mezzo-like voice quality and am qualified to work with all voice types. I have roughly 10 years of experience in teaching private music lessons. I am currently a general music teacher at an elementary school in Phoenix, AZ and am looking to build my own studio of students. MY EXPECTATIONS FOR STUDENTS: Piano and voice students must have regular access to a piano or keyboard for practicing and their lessons. The student (or student's family) should be prepared to purchase or provide song books. I can make recommendations on an individual basis. Students must practice between lessons. This ensures both of us are getting the most out of our time together. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM ME: I will tailor lessons toward your individual needs, goals, and interests. My goal is to support your personal preferences for music while expanding your knowledge of all genres of music. I will recommend the purchase of repertoire or supplies only if there is a genuine need for the purchase. Likewise, I will only recommend products or literature that I believe will be of the most value to the student. I will continually give 110% and offer you all the techniques and resources I can to support you in your musical endeavors.
