About Me:ShowI teach the fundamentals of technique and knowledge of the instrument with a strong focus on music theory, ear training, harmony, as well as improvisation and composition if desired. I strive to make learning fun and mix up the more mundane work, like scales and drills, with interesting material that keeps the student excited and interested. I will, for example, mix scales, drills, and technical exercises with progress through a method book. In addition I try to teach the students songs and musical pieces that they want to play from the first lesson. My goal is to teach the student enough about the instrument and the fundamentals of music so that they come to understand what makes music and be able to eventually teach themselves. Most of all it has to be FUN!!!!

About Me:ShowI approach teaching in a way that allows for self-discovery. By introducing simple concepts to a student and showing them how to concretize them, they are given the tools to unlock their own creativity. I use a combination of simple math, counting, theory, ear training and old-fashioned common-sense to introduce drumming in a way that is fun, educational and most-importantly, will prepare you for any musical situation.

About Me:ShowMatt's Music Studio (private music instruction) Matt teaches piano, theory, composition & the art of notation, having taught private lessons since 1977. His teaching encompasses the Classical, Jazz & Popular Music literature. From beginners to advanced, Matt uses a multiple key approach, as well as traditional middle-C method books. Matt says: "My philosophy of teaching music embraces the Classical literature, but is more inclusive of other styles as well: Jazz, Popular, Gospel, etc. I like to teach my students to be "functional" musicians. It is important that the student not only learn to read the written language of music, but also that they not be limited by it. I teach chordal understanding in whatever literature we're working on. In addition, learning to play EXACTLY what's written is then supplemented by ADDING notes or rhythms." I welcome the opportunity to expand your musical application & understanding. Looking forward to hearing from you...;-) Matt

About Me:ShowMy approach is traditional: a combination of music reading/theory, foundational posture/positioning and technique, music appreciation and fun. If the student does not already have a method book, one will be chosen based on the student's age, personality and other preferences. Supplemental music is offered for incentive and fun based on the student's interests. Students are encouraged to progress at their own pace. Recital participation is offered semi-annually.
