About Me:ShowLearning about your body in order to sing is so much fun. It gives you the technique to sing without a microphone. In fact, you learn to use your body as the amplifier. It's a great way to start learning to sing in general. For those who prefer other styles, once you've studied a few years of classical singing, then you can apply what you've learned to your pop or rock singing and be a very good singer because you have control over what you're doing. For those who just plainly love singing, I'll enjoy helping you to improve your sound.

Education: Music, minor in Voice (B.A.), Ottawa University [2008]

About Me:ShowMy personal philosophy of teaching is to meet the student where they are. What method to use depends on what the student wants to learn as well as how they learn. Not everyone learns music in traditional ways nor at the same pace, so it is important to keep students interested in what they do. This might mean taking a more creative or "non"-traditional approach to teaching. It is important to create opportunities for students to be successful in what they learn and in how they learn so that they will continue to grow and be successful.

About Me:ShowAlthough I am a classically trained singer, I have spent many years developing my own style of singing and instruction. I draw on my experiences and training not only in music, but theater and movement, to create a well rounded approach to singing and performing. I've sung everything from opera to music theater to jazz; European style cabaret to rock. I am also a songwriter and have collaborated on an array of original performances with various musicians and composers. I currently sing with my own roots rock band called The Red Apples who play in and around the Chicago area. Besides teaching privately I am also developing a performance workshop that will cover many different aspects of performing live. As an instructor, I am most interested in helping students find their true voice and artistic style. I teach students to find expression through and with a foundation of technique, rather then in spite of it. I also am very interested in helping students deal with the mental/emotional aspects of performance, an all important area so frequently ignored by music teachers. My style is nurturing, yet disciplined, and sprinkled liberally with good natured humor.

About Me:ShowI want my students to become well-rounded musicians. As a result, I use a comprehensive approach with them, teaching not only how to perform a piece of music, but also about other aspects relating to a piece such as music theory and music history. This means that the students are not simply performance machines; instead, they are musically intelligent, capable of critically analyzing music in order to make informed choices and decisions about music performance.

About Me:ShowWith any teaching, there is a give-take relationship between the student and instructor that fluctuates in both directions. I find that teaching is just as rewarding as learning. I, myself, am still a student and in no way could consider myself a master. I am educated on many different subjects and styles, yet I still have a lot to learn. My pledge to my students is that I will never make you feel inadequate or dumb. I am extremely patient because that is how I would like to be taught to get results.
