About Me:ShowI design a curriculum around the aptitude and the personal goals of the student. I move with the students pace, but always push for more results. I am interested in developing a passion for the instrument within the student. My approach focuses on three main objectives: to work on structured exercises to improve technique and proficiency, learn songs chosen either by myself or the student, and to aid in the understanding of music theory and its relevance.

About Me:ShowLearning about your body in order to sing is so much fun. It gives you the technique to sing without a microphone. In fact, you learn to use your body as the amplifier. It's a great way to start learning to sing in general. For those who prefer other styles, once you've studied a few years of classical singing, then you can apply what you've learned to your pop or rock singing and be a very good singer because you have control over what you're doing. For those who just plainly love singing, I'll enjoy helping you to improve your sound.

About Me:ShowMy personal philosophy of teaching is to meet the student where they are. What method to use depends on what the student wants to learn as well as how they learn. Not everyone learns music in traditional ways nor at the same pace, so it is important to keep students interested in what they do. This might mean taking a more creative or "non"-traditional approach to teaching. It is important to create opportunities for students to be successful in what they learn and in how they learn so that they will continue to grow and be successful.

About Me:ShowDave has been teaching piano and organ lessons since he was 15 years old. Aside from teaching private piano lessons Dave is also teaching Kid Rock and Tot Rock classes at many of the local northwestern suburban park districts. These are classes for 1 – 5 year olds to introduce them to music and motion using themed songs and various percussive instruments. Dave's specialty is teaching younger children, (ages 5 and up), beginning piano lessons. He uses a story book method which relates memorable children's characters to the notes of the piano. Children identify with these characters and become excited to learn new notes and songs each week. Through these characters the children learn the basic notes of the treble clef. As their skills build basic chord theory is introduced. For the slightly more advanced students Dave uses some of the standard method books to teach children to read treble and bass clef. He also writes out simplified arrangements of youngsters pop songs to make them excited to play the music they can identify with. Through these songs chord theory and simple arranging ideas can be taught. Dave has played keyboards with many local and regional bands, including The Finns, Sound Barrier, and Dave Major. He is also the engineer at his own private recording studio where he works with local bands on recording projects. Dave has studied privately with many of the best teachers from the Chicagoland area, including Bill Meyers whose credits include playing and arranging for Madonna and Earth, Wind and Fire.

About Me:ShowMy approach is guide students to advance towards their individual musical goals. I utilize various teaching methods depending on individual student’s needs. I like to maintain flexibility within lesson plans, tailoring each to the individual student’s interests, strengths, and weaknesses to stimulate creativity and learning within the lesson. I have found success teaching students with ADD or ADHD, since I work to pull together the main ideas how to learn music into a simple practice. My experience shows that mental focus can come from working to create a personal practice technique, and have an student's own strengths guide musical progress.
