About Me:
I feel that music is a necessary, life-enhancing experience which should be nurtured in all individuals, not only in those gifted with high musical aptitude.
According to Howard Gardner, music has unique properties as a form of human intelligence that is a part of the whole person. For some individuals, musical intelligence is a primary way of knowing. For all individuals, musical potential can be developed in the same respect as linguistic, logical, spacial, and bodily intelligences. Music provides a knowledge system which allows individuals to interact with their inner and outer worlds.
What drives me to teach music is that I love working with children and I love making music everyday. I teach private lessons every Friday and Saturday. I love to hear my students play their instruments and see them get passionate about what they are doing. I love to see and hear their improvements week to week. I also like learning new things. I like taking on new tasks such as learning a different instrument or new technique. I love to express to my students my love for doing new things. I like that they teach me new things also.
In my music program my students will learn to appreciate many different types of music. This will involve experiencing music of different time periods, cultures, and how music links with other academic subjects. Younger students especially benefit from being exposed to a broad spectrum of music since it helps them develop a good ear, an open mind, and they later understand different musical forms, meters, and tonalities. Through a well developed music program, the future of our society will be more accepting to the diversities of the world and have a better understanding of those who are different.
