About Me:ShowMy personal approach and philosophy to teaching students involves positive feedback and sharing my knowledge from 44 years of experience of playing and studying the cello. It is important for the student to feel good about studying the cello or piano. Working on fundamental skills is extremely important for all students. Choosing pleasing musical selections is also necessary for the healthy musical growth of the individual. Hopefully, the student will also be able to apply the knowledge gained from my tutelage to other aspects of life.

About Me:ShowI emphasize musicality, & spend a lot of time helping students understand how to play in an artistic, interesting way. I also prioritize proper cello position, helping students play comfortably & easily. I want my students to gain skills but also to understand what they are learning & why it is important. I encourage my students to ask a lot of questions & to demand clear explanations from me. I try to make lessons fun & exciting by catering to each student's individual learning style, interpersonal skills, & sense of humor.

About Me:ShowI like to get to know my student's individual interests before devising our approach. I will borrow methods from Suzuki or particular books, if I think that it will benefit the student. All of my lessons touch on history, theory, and ear training. As we dissect particular lines or passages, I believe that the importance of knowing why we are learning is as important as training ourselves physically. Most importantly, music should be fun! I encourage my students to keep reminding themselves what drew them to music in the first place.

About Me:ShowI believe that music making is a privilege that should be available to anyone who has the inclination. I teach in a relaxed yet goal-oriented way, with an emphasis on good technique, basic music theory and personal expression. Students ultimately teach themselves, the teacher is a guide, one who offers shortcuts and shows a path to effortless musicianship. My first priority is for the lesson to be a joyful experience. I have a flexible teaching system, spontaneously evolving with each student.

About the Cello

Among the most famous Baroque works for the cello are J. S. Bach's six unaccompanied Suites. From the Classical era, the two concertos by Joseph Haydn in C major and D major stand out, as do the five sonatas for cello and pianoforte of Beethoven.
