FAQ
- How much are lessons?
- The cost of lessons depends on the length of the lesson and where you live. Please call us to find out what lessons cost in your area.
- Do I have to agree to a 'semester contract' or something like that?
- No way!
- Unlike other music schools that hook you into a semester contract after your first lesson, Encore Music Lessons allows student to start and stop lessons when you want, at anytime.
- YOU WILL NEVER BE PENALIZED FOR STOPPING YOUR LESSONS!
- Is there a Registration Fee?
- No. (We don't know what those are for.)
- What is your cancellation policy?
- We have a standard 24-hour cancellation policy. Lessons cancelled within 24 hours count as a regular lesson and will be charged.
- All cancelled lessons are encouraged to be rescheduled.
- What is your payment policy?
- It's pay-as-you-go. Students (or their parents) put a credit card on file which we charge once a month, for the lessons that were given in the previous month.
- For example, a student who took 2 lessons in May would be charged for those lessons at the beginning of June.
- Do you accept cash or checks?
- We only accept credit cards -- Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.
- Do I pay the teacher directly?
- No. Since you shouldn't have to talk about anything except music with your teacher, Encore Music Lessons handles the business side of things.
- Do I have to own an instrument?
- Yes, because it's important to practice regularly between your lessons.
- How old does my child have to be to start lessons?
- Kids have to be at least four years old to start lessons.
- Do you provide group lessons?
- Yes we do.
- If you have a friend or a group of friends who would like to take lessons on the same instrument, give us a call and we'll match you up with a great teacher.
- How do you match students and teachers?
- We usually match students with teachers using the following criteria: location, schedule, ability (beginner, intermediate, advanced, etc.), and style.
- You can also read about our teachers and request a teacher in our Music Teacher Directory.
- What if I want a different teacher?
- No problem.
- Good chemistry between students and teachers is really important, so if it's not there, let us know and we'll make another recommendation.
- How can I speak directly with a teacher?
- Give us a call and we'll tell you how everything works. After that, if you want, we'll put you in touch with a teacher to schedule your first lesson.
- Do you run background checks on each teacher?
- How long have you been in business?
- We've been in business since the fall of 2005.
- Are you a school?
- Encore Music Lessons isn't a school in the traditional sense where students go to a certain location to get instruction. We provide in-home music lessons, or lessons in a teacher's studio.
- Are you a member of the Better Business Bureau?

About Us
Our mission is simple: to make it as easy as possible for parents and students to take lessons with a great teacher.
Encore Music Lessons was founded in New York City on October, 27, 2005 and opened its door for business on February 1st, 2006. In just two years, we've matched over 50,000 students with great teachers throughout New York City, New Jersey, Boston, Chicago and Philadelphia.
In May, 2008 we launched our new, national, state-of-the-art website, offering two teacher directories -- one for students who want in-home lessons and one for students who prefer to go to a teacher's studio -- making it easier than ever for students and parents to find the perfect local music teacher.
