Beginner

Intermediate
- Emphasis on groove and locking in with a drummer.
- Playing along with and transcribing the bass lines of great players.
- Slapping/popping technique and its importance to funk.
- Tracing the progression of styles, and how they've influenced each other.
- Music theory to see how a bass line relates to the overall structure of a song.
- Using the ear to free up playing and improvisation.
- Playing with a live drummer.
Advanced
- Using influence of other artists to create your own sound.
- Playing in live or recorded situations.
- Being able to play melodically in a rhythmic context such as James Jamerson.
- Working with composition/production.
- Having a complete picture of how the bass, drums, chords and melody interact.
