- Using the ear to free up playing and improvisation.
- Playing with a live drummer.
Advanced
- Using influence of other artists to create your own sound.
- Playing in live or recorded situations.
- Being able to play melodically in a rhythmic context such as James Jamerson.
- Working with composition/production.
- Having a complete picture of how the bass, drums, chords and melody interact.
