The electric bass is a relatively young instrument. It originates from the 1930's when inventor Paul Tutmarc first conceived of putting the bass into a guitar like configuration. Since that time the electric bass has become an indispensable part of pop, rock, hip hop, and funk. Many electric bass pioneers like James Jamerson, Jaco Pastorius, Stanley Clark, and Bootsy Collins, have added techniques and methods of playing the instrument that today are common place.

No unreasonable commitments

We understand that no two bass students are the same. Some people have never touched a bass in their lives while others may just need a few lessons to help prepare for an audition or gig. For maximum flexibility, Encore Music Lessons allows students to start and stop lessons as they need. There are no semester contracts or long term commitments.

Have you been thinking of taking bass lessons? If so you've come to the right place! The bass teachers you'll find here are educated, hard working, professional performers with an intimate knowledge of their craft. The bass is a fun instrument, but there's a lot to know, so it's good to have a teacher you know for sure is qualified.

Where do the bass lessons happen?

Lessons are generally private, one on one. Instruction can take place in the student's home or at a conveniently located teacher's studio.

If you're a beginning student, your teacher can cover subjects such as tuning the bass, right hand finger technique, and fretting notes with the left hand fingers.

For the intermediate level, topics such as playing songs, playing two octave scales, and reading music are likely to be taught.

Advanced students may want to explore techniques like slap bass, and playing artificial harmonics. Your teacher can help you study the styles and techniques of your favorite bassists as well, by working with recordings and transcriptions.

Whatever level you're currently at, the right instructor is waiting for you. If you'd like to find out more about bass lessons and how we work, give us a call at 212-537-6746 or 800-417-4620 today!

Excellent

Jon is a very patient instructor and a genuine pleasure to work with. He is very accommodating with the time that novices like myself need when practicing. He has a wealth of knowledge that is more than eager to share with you. Always a pleasure!
