The word clarinet actually comes from the Italian Clarino which translates as trumpet, because early clarinets had a trumpet like tone. The clarinet is a woodwind instrument, where sound is produced a reed that vibrates when air is applied to it. Although the clarinet has always had a strong presence in classical music, most people associate its round tone with early jazz. Some famous clarinetists include Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, and Don Byron.

Start and stop clarinet lessons when you want

People take lessons for different reasons, so we don't ask you to agree to any long term contracts or semester agreements. All students are free to stop and start clarinet lessons as necessary.

Where do the clarinet lessons happen?

Obviously different students will have different needs, so lessons can take place either in your home or at a nearby teacher's studio depending on what's best for you.

Students at the beginning stage may learn about putting the clarinet together, how to produce a good sound, how to form an embouchure, and how to play basic melodies using notes within an easy playing range.

Intermediate students can study things like creating articulations, advanced rhythms, and performing pieces.

For the advanced students some possible subjects include music theory, major and minor scales in 12 keys, improvisation, and much more.
