The flute, part of the woodwind family, is one of the earliest musical instruments in recorded history. The flute we are most familiar with today is the transverse flute, which is held sideways, is made of metal, and has a range of about three octaves. With it's distinctive warm tone, the flute has found it's way into many different types of music including classical, pop, and jazz.
Everyone is different
Over the years we've learned that students often take lessons for different reasons. Some students have never even held a flute before, while others have been playing for a long time and just want a refresher. For this reason, Encore Music Lessons does not ask students to commit to taking a certain amount of lessons. There are no term contracts or semester systems, and students can stop or start lessons as necessary.
If you're serious about learning the flute, coming to this website was a good start. The flute is a fascinating instrument with a sound like no other, but it's important to have a good teacher to guide you along the way as you learn.
Where can I take flute lessons?
Flute lessons can be taken in the privacy of your home or at a teacher's studio nearby - it's up to you.
Depending on your level of ability, your teacher can cover topics such as producing a good tone, using proper fingerings, playing major and minor scales in 12 keys, reading music, and playing musical pieces. The teachers you'll find at Encore Music Lessons can also help you learn about more advanced subjects like the chromatic scale, playing overtones, music theory, and improvisation.
Regardless of what stage you're at in your playing, Encore Music Lessons can help you find a flute teacher that's just right. Call us at 212-537-6746 or 800-417-4620 to find out more about flute lessons and how you can get started right away!
Student Reviews
My daughter is four and has been taking piano lessons with Chris for a couple of months now. He has an amazing, calming ability to engage even the youngest learner. I have been most impressed with how much she has learned in such a short period and even more importantly, how much fun she is having learning to play. I would highly recommend Chris to anyone who wants their child to develop a love of music and the skills needed to play an instrument.
Laura - New York, NY Teacher: Chris C.About the Flute
The 20th century saw a revival of the recorder, while the concert flute and tin whistle continued to be popular. The invention of plastics in the 20th century gave birth to the tonette, a fipple flute used in music education, but it soon fell out of use, replaced by plastic recorders.
