About Me:
I have been playing music since I was little, on my grandma's piano. I started piano lessons at 7 and violin and flute at age 11. During high school, I focused on violin and flute. I have a degree in music education from Central Michigan University where I studied with Seunghee Lee. There were many great opportunities for me in college. I started teaching privately in 2005 and was also hired as an assistant for a beginning orchestra. After graduating in 2007, I taught for three years as an orchestra and violin teacher in Northbrook, IL, district 28. While there, I incorporated cross-curriculum planning into my lessons. For example, one of our songs was a Korean folk song, so we were able to have a guest artist come in and teach the class how to write our names in Korean. I also continued teaching privately outside of school, played in the Northwest Symphony Orchestra, a community orchestra in Des Plaines, and took some Master-level classes at DePaul. I have returned to school for a music therapy degree through Alverno College. It has been fascinating to learn the ways in which music affects the brain and has helped to deepen my understanding of music and its capabilities, which I have already begun incorporating into my lessons. I have also been working as respite provider for individuals with developmental disabilities the past year. I am a member of Golden Key International Honour Society, American String Teachers Association, and American Music Therapy Association
