KARISA M. (Soprano), a native of Ohio, studies under Prof. Elem Eley and Christopher Arneson at Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton, New Jersey where she is pursuing a Master of Music in Voice Performance and Pedagogy. She completed a Bachelor of Music Education from Cedarville University in 2004 and has won several scholarships including the Young Singers Foundation Bev Sellers Memorial Scholarship in 2012, the Thomson Graduate Voice Scholarship in 2011, and the Madison Caroline Law Memorial Scholarship in 2007 for “recognition of giftedness and promise as vocalist and educator.”
Karisa began her teaching career in China at the Beijing National Day School where she founded and directed an English choral program while teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) courses to Chinese middle school and high school students. While in China, she simultaneously performed with the International Festival Chorus (2008-2011) under British conductor Nicholas Smith at the prestigious Forbidden City Concert Hall. Her credits include the chorus of Princeton Opera Festival's in Rachmaninoff's Francesca da Rimini (2012), the role of Isabel in Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance (2009), Laurie in Copland’s The Tender Land (2007), and Elsie in scenes from Gilbert and Sullivan’s Yeoman of the Guard (2006).
An active member of the National Association for Music Educators as well as a volunteer with youth outreach programs in her New Jersey community, Karisa is passionate about investing in students’ lives to make music both accessible and exciting. She plans to pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Voice Pedagogy.
